Morgan Lovell Brings Home Comforts Into the OfficeA new design trend for homely comforts in the office is turning the traditional world of British business on its head.
Introducing homely touches such as comfy sofas, chill-out areas, staff snapshots – and even a games console - can aid motivation and act as a platform for innovation. Office transformation specialist Morgan Lovell has seen more business leaders introduce a domestic feel to office design projects through its ‘office at home’ concept. The company has recently transformed its own London office in a style that demonstrates the new cultural shift. Further details are available at www.morganlovell.com David Henderson, managing director of Morgan Lovell, said: “The ‘office at home’ style is designed to instill team spirit, make employees more comfortable in the workplace and create an innovative atmosphere. “The concept has come to the UK from the USA where it has been used to create inspirational environments, particularly in hi-tech industries such as IT.†At Morgan Lovell’s London office, based in Noel Street, Soho, contemporary, glossy décor has been introduced to the kitchen diner, also known as a ‘break out’ area, complete with low level lighting and booth style seating. TV screens and decorative wall coverings help to create a sense of lounge living and other touches include the display of locally produced art in domestic style shelving and bookcases with a broad range of titles. Members of staff are also encouraged to bring pictures of themselves as youngsters for a family-style notice board, while another area includes comfy sofas and a games console where staff can exercise their competitive spirit. Smaller desks have been introduced to encourage greater interaction and meeting rooms built to enable informal, impromptu meetings. Fruit platters are prepared every day and lunch is brought in on the first Friday of every month so that everyone can get together and talk. Elaine Duke, the designer who headed up the re-design of the London office, said: “The overall aim is to create areas in which staff can feel they are escaping from their office environment. “The break out area has been designed to create a very different feel to the rest of the office space, so that people feel they are in a completely different environment. “Since the changes, staff are spending more time talking to each other, communicating ideas and working better. It’s a great way for offices to operate.†ENDS Located in London, Birmingham and the Thames Valley, Morgan Lovell is the UK’s leading office interior design, fit out and refurbishment specialist. With its own teams of designers, surveyors and project managers, the company can design and deliver entire projects, with the benefit of just one point of contact. www.morganlovell.com It is part of top five UK construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall plc which operates through five specialist divisions of affordable housing, construction, development, fit out and infrastructure services. Morgan Lovell is a licensed BREEAM Offices Assessment Organisation.
