Flowcrete Provides Chelsea Pensioners With Uniform HeatFlowcrete’s Isowarm underfloor heating system has been installed at the historic Royal Chelsea Hospital – home to the world-famous scarlet uniformed Chelsea Pensioners. The 21st century solution has been introduced to keep residents warm within the new infirmary that is being built by Wates Construction, one of the UK’s leading building contractors.
Wates Construction have been on site since October 2006 within the hospital’s 66 acre grounds, located adjacent to the River Thames. The Chelsea Royal Hospital is home to more than 400 In-Pensioners – all former non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the British Army who receive an Army Service or War Disability Pension. The average age of the pensioners is 83. Sir Christopher Wren designed and erected the facility after King Charles II issued a Royal Warrant in 1681 authorising the creation of a centre to care for the welfare of old or disabled soldiers. Now, along with the development of the new infirmary - the fifth building to be built over the centuries at the site - work is also being carried out to upgrade the existing buildings to meet the needs of the 21st century In-Pensioner. Isowarm will deliver a uniform temperature throughout the building, delivering a safe, efficient and economic source of heat, which adheres to the modern demands for sustainability. Alan Dean, sales director of Flowcrete, said: “Of significance for this project is the ability to keep underfloor heating out of sight - which makes it a safe system for all environments, particularly those used by the elderly. “Furthermore, with the cost-effective benefits of Isowarm - including possible energy savings of up to 24 per cent compared to conventional radiator systems – it not only cuts fuel bills but also helps create a more sustainable environment. “The installation also frees up a considerable area that would normally be taken up with products such as radiators.†Flowcrete approved contractor Advance Screeding, based in Crayford, Kent, applied both the floor screed – Isocrete K-Screed – as well as the Isowarm system, across an area of 6,000 square metres. Noel Brennan, commercial director of Advance Screeding, said: “One of the major benefits with Isowarm is the ability to deliver a ‘one stop solution’ - with a single warranty covering both the underfloor heating and the screed. “Coupled with the professional indemnity for the design of Isowarm, as well as installation of the entire system - including the screed - the system offers peace of mind and control for specifiers and users alike.†Find out more at www.flowcrete.com ENDS Notes To Editors For further information please contact Jane Shepherd, Shepherd PR, on 01538 308685 or email: jane@shepherd-pr.com Flowcrete UK Ltd The Flooring Technology Centre Booth Lane, Moston, Sandbach, Cheshire CW11 3QF Visit us on the web at www.flowcrete.com Flowcrete UK Ltd is a subsidiary of Flowcrete Group plc Flowcrete Group plc is a world leader in the supply of specialist flooring for commercial and industrial buildings.
