Engine Which Uses Air as Fuel Developed by Nazafgarh YouthsWith the burning desire to create and invent something unique, the three youths- Manish Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Murari Lal, all in the age group of twenties- from Nazafgarh, a village on the outskirts of Delhi, have developed an engine that operates solely on air as fuel, and which produces enough of energy to propel the vehicle. They have proudly named it "Airmate". An indigenously developed engine, which is absolutely pollution free and perhaps, could be among various ways to check global warming. With the limited resources under their belt, they worked hard to develop this technology within a short period of three months.
When asked about the inspiration to develop such a machine, Manish while speaking to Headlines India said, "To do something innovative is our hobby, which gave us the inspiration. Three years ago, we made an eight-feet long aeroplane but it crashed due to its poor landing. Moreover, we did not have flying permission from police." How did the idea of making such a car generate? "The idea erupted from train engine, which runs on steam but the engine uses coal as fuel to produce steam. If a train can run on steam then why not a car, which would breathe air and exhale air?" remarked Manish. According to him, "We started intensive work on the project, but the first and foremost hurdle which we faced was, how to convert air into fuel? And the second bottleneck was how to give speed and power to the engine? Finally a prototype engine has been made, which is powerful enough to carry two people at the speed of 50 kilometre per hour, but we can develop it to deliver speed of even upto 100-130 kilometre per hour." Is there any similar engine in making? "No, not exactly" Krishan Kumar retorted. He went on to say, "Tata motors declared that they are about to launch a car in 2008, which would use air as fuel in collaboration with MDI Group of France. But what have we come to know that the car would run on air up to the limit of 50 kilometre and later it switches to traditional fuel for attaining higher speed. Our technology requires no air-conditioning even in summers as cool air exhausted by the engine could cool the car and it is non-polluting. No spark or ignition fuel to cause any fire or explosion during accident. And it can be developed to require only one time fueling for a lifetime. Even if the air tank bursts, then it would only hiss out the air, which is uninflammable." These three young engineers are just senior secondary pass out, and have developed their technology without having any qualification in automobile engineering. Apart from Krishan, who is having science background, the other two are arts students. "However, we have placed our proposal to a giant automobile manufacturing company for acceptance of our Airmate engine," said Murari. "We would like to develop a technique that would require no fuel, no gas and no air to propel an engine," added Murari when asked about their future course of action.
