4m Flooring Uk Completes Project at Gm Manufacturing, Ellesmere Port

Specialist contractor 4m flooring uk Ltd has completed a major refurbishment project at GM Manufacturing Ellesmere Port.

The Crewe-based company has finished a year-long project to install 37,000 square metres of Flowcrete’s flooring products at the state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing plant.

4m has previously installed around 200,000 square metres of specialist industrial flooring at the site and was appointed in 2005 by the company as their partner in flooring solutions.

The work – much of which was undertaken during factory shutdown periods - has been completed in the general assembly area, paint unit, body shop, press unit and toilet facilities.

Dave Burrows, senior regional engineer in facilities management at GM Manufacturing, Ellesmere Port, said: “The works have been carried out in a wide range of areas in our plant, each presenting different situations associated with the working environment.

“Each time 4m has successfully adapted to the location requirements and provided the correct level of detail and control over the works.

“The project has transformed the appearance of the plant.”

Work started with the removal of existing flooring systems, followed by Flowcrete’s Hydraseal damp proof membrane and then the flowable polymer screed Flowshield to ensure the floor was in good shape for the final part of the works – the installation of Flowcrete Flowcoat SF41, an ultra-strength, high-build resin coating in grey. Demarcation lines and directional routes complete the project.

Mark Holden, managing director of 4m, part of the Seddon Group, said: “This has been a major project for us, which involved a great deal of pre-planning and co-ordination while on site. We are delighted with the results.”

4m is a premier name in both industrial and commercial flooring across the UK and Europe. The company has a portfolio of Blue Chip clients who value 4m’s consultative, solutions-led approach.

One of 4m’s key specialist areas is the design, supply and installation of flooring systems for the automotive industry.

As well as GM Manufacturing, automotive clients include Bentley Motors, Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls Royce, Leyland trucks and Ford. Over the last few years, some 700,000 square metres of flooring products have been installed by 4m’s expert team within this sector alone.

A specialist automotive ‘virtual tour’ case study is available on the company’s website www.4m-flooring.co.uk.
